I received an email from the IOU project yesterday with this video attached.
The wee 3 minute film offers a compelling argument and some great graphic design, so I hope you'll check it out.

Who knows how their pieces will turn out but I do hope well.
There is such a need to keep people in the product-making business and artisanship not only alive but thriving. Here and Everywhere.

As prototypes of the textiles and the garments become available I hope to share them here.
In the meantime, I'm feeling extra inspired to incorporate the vintage, local, handmade, and one-of-a-kind wares that my wardrobe is full of into more outfits these days.

A minimalist I am not.

Try as I may to trim down my packing, my projects, and perhaps, from time to time, my purchases (thrifting only I SWEAR) I always seem to end up with more than I have room for. Which is why ADF and I are on the search for wheels of the wagon variety.

A vintage Mercedes 300TDT to be technical about it.

Not only have I long loved the aesthetic and the sentimental pangs that they impart (my father surprised my dear mother with a 280SL convertible when they became engaged) but I adore (read: need) their roominess. Some versions even offer soccer seats in the back. Perfect for field trips with a wagon full of friends! And pretty much imperative.

Play It As It Lays: Joan Didion Style

I just finished reading Play It As It Lays. And now I'm on to imagining what Joan Didion's life might have been like while she wrote it.

The novel is:
Dry, desperate and rushingly rhetorical.
About one woman's cycle of self destruction, her uncontrollable ennui and the almost graceful determination with which she ensures her own doom.
Set against the hot malaise of early 70's L.A.
The sort of story that makes you want to wear your smallest dress and your darkest shades as you drive fearlessly into the desert with nothing else but pills and cigarettes and an emptiness where your soul used to be.

It's a perfect read for when you are feeling like disaster.

And as for the author, I admire her words and I have to say the same goes for her style, which has certainly influenced my vision of how her protaganist must have looked. Lean and bird-like, lightly touched by the sun, wearing long skirts and sandals and the look of quiet brilliance.

My friends Jimuna and Alex became engaged not long ago.

The proposal which took place before a storm on an abandoned seaglass covered beach outside of Atlantic City, involved Al spotting a ring box amongst the flotsam on shore. His now-suspicious lady opened it, found it empty, and, understandably, spun around swinging. Having fallen for another of his many pranks, she was decidedly unamused.

Jimuna never managed to make contact, as her clever cad had already dropped to his knee. Smiling wickedly. Ring at the ready.

She told him, wearing it makes her feel like this.

Free People has long been a brand outdone by their brethren (the whimsical, if folksy Anthropologie on one end and the clever, cheap and delightfully copycatish Urban Outfitters at the other) but they are finally producing some fashions which are making me look twice. Or at least giving me pause before tossing their catalogue.

At the apex of this improvement are these super trousers, which I have been imagining myself in since spotting them in their January look book. Incedentaly they will be spot on for my trip to South East Asia this february. Though the fact that they are see-through may cause a stir when on visit to holy shrines... I digress.

Don't you too enjoy the cuff, the cut and the oversized pattern? So good.

Apparently these are by a brand called SQ which are either Aussie or Japanese, I can't seem to decipher, either way a great addition to the FP repetoire.

I do hope they'll keep on with this style upswing.

List Lust: Holiday Edition

It's a festivus miracle! A blog post in december! And my, has it been a bit... well, more than a bit an AGE. But now is the time when wishes come true... and when wishes are made, of course.

So here are some of mine.

Since summer I have been dreaming about adding a kiss of color to the underside of my locks in a shade quite like this. Now that it is dark and cold and my tendrils are no longer quite so sun bleached and bright it seems the right time to jazz up the dark side.

It seems that said coat would enjoy the addition of some cozy leg covers, as it does only hit around the knee, which is where these serious socks come into play. I think I'd use the the blue ones most?

As far as my feet are concerned these brogue hybrids are going to be a highlight of our spring. Part of the shoe collection I worked on with Samantha Pleet + Osborn for 2011, they are Osborn's first sandal. Here they feature a japanese linen dot. And they're dope.

Speaking of the handsome Andrew De Francesco, I'd been mourning the failed purchase of this ring (second down), which we thought would be such a tops wedding band when we found it, since it was bought out from under me last May.

Recently however, we had the terrific fortune of finding it's buyer and re-creator in the amazing Caitlin Mociun--who wisely freaks for Erie Basin as much as I do and who customizes things brilliantly.

Another wish which I'd like to put out in the universe is that the wise, warm, funny, beautiful, other worldly, generous, and generally sensational Chrissie Abbott comes to visit us in New York more often. Should those prove too difficult I will happily take some of her tremendous work to hang on our walls for the time being.

I Want to Collect the Collection

One of my besties Becky has just launched her newest line Rebecca Minkoff Collection, a small suite of luxury bags that pull the best themes from her classics while employing embellishments and shapes from the super-fancy future. They are exclusively at Saks for now but I am hoping that at least one of them can be exclusively mine pretty soon? Ahem...

My most pressing longing lies in the bag at below right.

Who knew that chartreuse and rose gold would look so lush together? (Answer: Becky) And the shape she's chosen plus the unexpected strap (made up of superfine strands) make the piece ladylike with a pinch of punk. I want to store gold bullion and rubies in this little pouch! It is so goooooood.

And while I'm not generally up for the saddle-y, southwestern style I feel as though I could realllly get into these bags as I sweat and stomp and dance and sing and kick up dust on my ramble around Coachella*.

monogram needs

I'm looking to have a monogram made that combines KC + ADF.
Or any of the letters within. And as such have been sussing out our options.

There are several spectacular monogram makers about like Caroline Brackenridge of Monogram Inc.
Some of her combos are a bit on the fawncy side for me but golly are they gorgeous.

And then there are our friends at Fogelson-Lubliner who made our radical engagement invitations, and who do other dope projects like this:

So I have an inkling they could render a fine monogram.

Another mono-crest that has been tickling my heartstrings, is one that my friend Garett made for himself and his bride (one of my best friends and the most talented flower whisperer I know, Danielle Rowe) when they began to plan their wedding.

Bringing it All Back Home

My darling friend Louise just returned from a journey to Morocco, home to infinite shopping possibilities, one of the best Absolutely Fabulous episodes + my fantasy destination wedding.

With her she took an epic list of items that I would like her to bring back for me.
(As I told her, sans sherpa this may be impossible, but fingers crossed there was room in the suitcase for at least a few of these north african dreams...)

Here it is:

One of my top picks right now is a moroccan wedding blanket.
Said bed cover is often be-sequined + festooned with dense fringe + would look divine on a number of surfaces in my home.

It would also be an apropos gift for someone (hooray! this means you!) to give to me before my nuptials.

Other requests I've sent with Ms. Sturges?
Textiles, pillows, rugs, pompoms...

Jewels, too of course.
In particular I'm longing for a breastplate/necklace in silver and rough cut stones. Otherwise some jangly coin business will do the trick.

This friday we were lucky enough to celebrate the birthday of one of my besties, the ever-adorable + chanel-sweatshirt adorned miss Becky Minkoff.

I say we're lucky because she is on the move these days and was home for what seemed like only 24 hours. While the following day saw our girl jetting off to Korea (hopefully not too terribly fragile from the festivities) we got to have her for one wonderful night, all to ourselves.

Also, big props and muchos graciases go to our hosts Tali + Craig who have my dream apartment + are just a beautiful breezy dream themselves.

I can now say that I've accomplished the former. And for 13 american dollars they do seem like a good deal...

Then again, two days remain on this auction, and we all know how much can change in a wee 48...

Only time will tell if these baubly eye bobs will be mine.

I have a case of the mean reds these days.
Unexplainable, unshakeable, unfun mean reds.

Usually being around my friends helps me to get back to being myself but even that feels like a challenge at the moment. I loathe feeling like this...
Fortunately, I have friends like Chris McDonald who come to me (or at least send their music my way,) and brighten my spirits with some horticulture/first lady-themed hip hop.

That stop animation is done with great cheek by a fellow ginger named Carolyn Wachnicki. You can also see her work here.

Also of note, Chris produced this track at his awesome farmhouse studio in Connecticut where he breeds goat and bees and sick artsy beats.
Which is uplifting in itself, I suppose.

Noah and the Wes

Were one to recreate my life on film it would very likely come across as a Wes Anderson production. Winsome threadbare sets, an eccentric and handsome cast, preposterous plots, clever conversation, tragedy tempered by hilarity, emotionally hindered prodigies, bursts of vibrant color, dalmatian mice, and a delightful if peculiar soundtrack, are a few parallels of note.
(The only thing noticeably inadequate in my world would be the Futura font, and that is really the city of New York's shortcoming.)

It is comforting then, to view a music video like this one by Noah and the Whale...

how great is this carpet design?

... which feels like home and looks like an Owen Wilson vehicle.
Aside from being catchy and sunny and adorably wardrobed it offers some inspiring home decor ideas (see carpet above,) and is generally darling.

Decor idea 1: Steal these pillows. I already have some experience in embroidery and plan to finally use it for good.

A while back we enjoyed a viewing of Shabd's gorgeous collection in the cozy setting of Artist Tatiana Kronberg's home. Kronberg is a multimedia artist who among other things, made these fascinating Chanel bag candles as part of her Counterfeit series.

After I get my authentic leather version I will hopefully procure a wax replica so that I might surprise guests by setting my "bag" aflame.

I find these future friendly, geometric jangels by Aesa very appealing.
Almost like something the childlike empress from the never ending story would wear if she had grown up, become an art director and moved to brooklyn?

(That scenario is, hysterically enough, sort of the case. Acording to issue no. 1 of Lula magazine she is a dancer living in williamsburg. Who knew?)

Anyway these are full of intergalactic intruige and organic angularity which I'd dangle from my dome, or neck, any day.

Aesa's ascension necklace (above) is particularly doing it for me. Too bad it's on back order at Jumelle.

The Samatha Pleet costume party at TG170 was a halloween hoot.

There were batsuits and catsuits, curio collections and sample selections, SP's lovely fall line and feminine fanciful watercolors, all there for sale.

Ms. Pleet made the lot of it, including what might be the cutest tomato costume that I've ever failed to take a photo of. Normally I would have you see, but I was hyperfocused on my own fuzzy find.
A certain polar bear inspired vest that was cozy and chic and stylishly cut and just dying for a good home.

These also wanted to come home with me but they belong to the shop.

The thing of it is, it looks like a vest but it feels like a cape, all drapey and flowy-like in the back. It feels like an ermine number from an empire long ago. It recieved ample compliments on its debut last night.

Speaking of compliments. How GOOD is this gal's tatoo. She works at the shop and is obvz chillin herself.

I think that really says it all.

These are my easy-going antipodean must-haves for spring:

A perfect denim jacket.
Just a little bit cropped and a wee bit bleached.

A tiny floral print dress with pockets and perky cap sleeves.

This nude lace bodysuit/maillot. I can't tell you how many outfits this completes.

One light-as-air black drape-sleeve dress.
It reminds me of my bodkin tank dress from their capsule collection which has proved indispensable.

And summer:

Black lace 2 piece with detachable straps. Such versatility, such classic allure, how can you live with out it?

october outfit hit

I got a little bit dressed up for a day date with E-best--which involved major catching up on her ever-adventurous life + a dyn-o-mite ginger drink called The Killer. (Thank you Liquiteria, I feel much better now)

And an evening date with ADF--which involved fighting over popcorn + a much delayed viewing of The September Issue. (Thank you Grace Coddington, I feel much better now.)

It went like this:

vintage courreges navy top + rebecca minkoff cuff bracelet + vintage chain-lizard belt stolen from mummy's closet + new karen walker lily skirt + hayden-harnett madeline boots

-this top never gets any play, as its a teensy bit tight in my chestal area but the fact that is has a precocious neck bow and tonal polka dots make it too good to give up.

-as for the bracelet, RM will allegedly be releasing them to the public soon. and they are an absolute must-buy for fall. I plan to get at least one more, this time in red. which would have been so good with this outfit.

-up until now I had one decent black skirt and is from the gap. and I bought it in 8th grade. kudos to me that it still fits, shame on me that I still wear it. This KW number has pockets, is made of refined and ladylike wool suiting and thanks to an elastic waistband will likely fit me when my yet-to-be-born kids are in 8th grade.

-I cannot give a glowing enough review of Hayden-Harnett's footwear. Which is sadly no longer being produced. If you come across a pair, buy them immediately. it goes well with just about everything- high-waisted rachel comey skirt and marni platforms to elastic-waisted yoga pants, mis-matched socks and a flannel (leave me alone I'm an invalid...)

While the love of Tie Dye never quite left me (thanks to the idyllic and colorful Hippie interludes of my early life and a continued passion for splashes of bright bizness) there has been a certain rebirth of appreciation for it around here. From sporting a skirt when channeling Rayanne Graff, to enjoying a post birthday Tie Dye day partay, it has been a present pattern in my life of late.

So too is it present in the field of fashion (no surprise really, as I've been known to set a trend or two, including the stirrup-pant debacle of '91.)
My darling friend Rebecca Minkoff made some fab bags of it, American Aparel took harem pants to a new level with it, and my pal Shabd Simon-Alexander has made an art form out if it.

I visited a showcase of her works a few weeks back and found a collection worth sharing.

Creative Consumerism: Fashion's Night Out

With all the options on offer with Fashion's Night Out it is hard to choose where to sip ones cocktail and shop for treasures tomorrow . Rebecca Minkoff at Bloomingdales, Vena Cava at Bird, Karen Walker at Elizabeth Charles, April '77 at OAK are just a few of the soirees stretching me thin.

Thankfully Hayden Harnett is making at least one destination an easy choice (and I don't just say this because I'm styling their fashion presentation...)

Toni, being brill as she is, invited a traveling tattoo artist to hit HH for a house call. And he won't be poking at the skin we're in but the pelts we purchace, or bring on in. The gorgey results of this inky experiment can be admired below.

I just think it's a fab idea, not to mention an amazing way to recycle, personalize and update those formerly-favourite leather goods you may have lying around.

The only difficulty now is in deciding what to tat onto which of my bags.
The list of options so far includes, but is not limited to: anchors and antelopes, beach umbrellas and balloons, compasses and cocktails, dreamcatchers and diamonds, owls and oak trees, spectras and sparrows, double c's and tie-dye t's...

I either need to curb my enthusiasm or bring the biggest bag I've got.

Allow me to take you in my time machine back to 1993... technically '94 if we're talking about when this video was recorded.

Anyhow, way back then Pepper was spelled Pepa, short shorts came in blue metallic with matching bras and girl groups got dirty by mudwrestling, not skanking it out like the pussycat dwarves.

Why did things have to change? Whyyy?

1st item of note: Salt's terrifically timeless shades-I think I own them in tortoise? They're super classic as you can tell from this vid. Plus they make her look so smart.

Also classic: when she raps about a "90210 kinda ho" I feel like we're having a chat about friends over coffee and I love it.

It is allegedly awesome.

I was a bit stunned that we actually won the raffle, even though ADF was insistent that he would be the victor, just because it seemed too good to be true. The power of positive thinking is our new best friend.

You should introduce yourself sometime, if you're not yet hep.

This is where we are going. And we are stoked in a may-hor way.

I absolutely adore receiving presents at any time from any one and this past birthday was no exception.
There were many gifts shared, the greatest of course--and I MEAN this--was having such a tremendous turn out of treasured friends.
But in addition to that were the actual openables and one of the first ones I tore into was from my darling Ms Cory Bronson. She's a cupcake-maker, marketing genius, tenderhearted bestie, and truly great gift-giver. My favourite of her pressies so far?

Firstly, it is a HEADPIECE!
Clarrrro (heavily rolled r,) I am smitten.

The fact that you have ears attatched is simply madness, and mousey madness at that.

ADF and I had a mini-minnie snapattack the morning that these ears were granted to me-- please note the ultra-sultry Hayden-Harnett suede shorts that I had the utmost pleasure of getting a preview wear of, more on that later.

Aside from the joy that I can now recreate this divine Herb Ritts/Early Madonna photoshoot (noted astutely by my beloved WL) I can incorporate it into a myriad of already awesome outfits that were missing a certain animal urgency. Or I'll just wear it au natural a la Esther below...

Have you ever watched a nature show where a rare beast, like an albino miniature pony or a rainbow throated love-bird or something, frolics across the screen and you think: "how is it possible this amazing anomalous creature has survived in this raw and wild tundra?"

That is what it feels like meeting Miss Peggy Noland of Kansas City, Missouri. With a silvery hairdo straight out of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and a technicolor polka-dotted bodysuit topped/billowy patchwork summer parka get up, carrying a yin-yang back pack, PN is not your average anything. What is she then? Oh just a DREAM.

We had the joy of visiting her slice-of-madness store and as a seasoned shopper I will say there are few places like it. It's covered on every surface with stuffed animals for pete's sake. But not for long as this season's installation-an obvious nod to the animal prints she has incorporated into a slew of her current collection's pieces-will come down when the next season starts. Bye bye creepy toy dome!

As for her actual artwork, and it is art: drop crotch pants, magic-eye bikini onesies, a judy jetson-esque floral frock-suit. ALL of it was irresistable and god did it look good on. I snagged the onesies and am still trying to find a way to afford the floral number.

Frankly, It's Not a Hotel

Having shot the cool kids of Omaha for Elizabeth's blog post on the Teen Vogue (which you should check out here) I felt inclined to send you some photos of the environs in which these little legends live.

We kicked it with them at their place of residence, Hotel Frank, an awesomely ramshackle old mansion that has all the elements of a squat (broken items everywhere, graffiti on all available surfaces, dark and creepy corners, the distinct essence of feral cats, and a disturbing, yet entertaining basement) except Frank's inhabitants pay rent, make magnet poetry on the fridge, and throw radical parties. Just like the tenants before them going back about 30 years now. A little bit like a Chelsea Hotel except this version has yet to see even the remotest renovation.

The house and it's lodgers are one of the mo better parts of Omah-awesome and we're really stoked they had us over and rocked us out. Special hearts to Kevin (the person not the car) and a Hotel resident, who is one of the handsomer and more hospitable hosts we've had on the journey thus far.

The last time I saw Thurston Moore was with Yoko Ono and Stereolab in Battery Park a bazilllion years ago. After seeing Sonic Youth on Saturday night, I've been wondering where the hell was Kim for the BP show?

Nobody's Perfect: KC Edition

I'm no stranger to a good swap. My love Louise held a pretty rad cocktail and clothing tradeoff a few months back, Chrysanthe brought me along to another treasure filled try-on, and Elizabeth and I have done our share of switcheroos along the way.

The people of Kansas City, MO? They too adore a trade. Now you're wondering what might one find there. Whithout being impudent I'd like to tell you in the nicest of ways: Junk.

Trunks of junk in fact. Is that fair to say? Because that's sort of what we encountered.

As any good treasure hunter will know, however, even in a sea of stupid stuff one can discover a few shining stars.

Its been fairly astounding how well received we've been in almost every place we've breezed through. Each tiny town, big(ish) city, styled out hotel, sketchito motel, lutheran thrift store, native american roadside attraction, soulfood restaurant, and tiny tiki bar--each one has welcomed us with open arms.

I've taken to calling this the Champagne Thunder Vision Quest of Aught Nine and our tag line for this expedition?
"Charming the Nation"

It works.

And recent studies have shown that no one is immune to our winsome vagabondery.

Since these are the gals I've been spending every day with you can understand why.

My breakfast choice in Denver, the ever delicious Walnut Cafe, has apparently been replaced by a Mexican joint named Emilio's. Not the happiest discovery when one is starving and on East Colfax trying to feed an aerostar full of ladies. But when life closes a Walnut it opens a Penn Street Perk and if it hadn't been for this contingency plan put into action we would never have met Nona.

The consensus amongst Elizabeth, Susan and Jill is that Nona is a lot like an 80 year old version of yours truly. An association that I could not be more pleased with.

A bright bolt of energy with a straw hat, starstudded anklet (!), delectable enthusiasm, and beaming smile Nona clocked in at about 4 feet 11 inches of sassafrasicity. I promised to make her a model, she made claims that she would join the road trip in Baltimore. We told life stories, talked about safari jackets, shared thrifting tips and hugged at least 7 times. It was like looking into a distant mirror and I couldn't have been more tickled with what I saw.

I feel like adopting a grandmother is the plot of some early Lindsay Lohan movie, but I've decided that it's my turn to star in this story. Come to B-more, make your way to new york, stay with me forecver and I'll keep that promise about making you into a model.

New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment.

It's the state's official slogan, the people's way of life, and our phrase of choice after the two beguiling days that we just spent in Santa Fe. Thrift shops that overfloweth, tiny sno cone stations, green chile on everything, hot pink margaritas (that's the prickly pear which pink-ifies it if you're wondering), timberwolves wandering the street, and a host of curious characters, some more savory than others.

To start:

Everyone's favourite breakfact place in SF is Tia Sophia and as it turns out they stop serving said meal at 11am. An awfully early hour in my opinion, at least when you're untethered exploresses like ourselves. Their shuttering turned out to be for the best though because it landed us at Cafe Pasqual. A slightly ritzy resto for Santa Fe, Pasqual holds a place in my heart. One, because I have eaten there several times with some of my favourite friends. Two, because they have dope paper clothing-art hanging from the ceiling, interspersed among those gorgeous new mexican paper cut out flags. (Remind me to order a set of banners with my name emblazoned on them, by the by. I think they would look fetching out in Quogue.) It looks like a pinata exploded inside in the best of ways.
And the food you ask? It's truly outstanding.
Ask for Robler when you go there
Tell him Rita Heyworth sent you.
Have the Motuleños.
And feel differently about bananas.

Rad paper fringe jackets make my day.

We made our first shop-stop of the visit at the five and dime on the Plaza. They have a dangerous array of treasures. I personally find their corn necklaces to be very versatile accessories and great gifts. Plus they're made of corn so in an emergency you could eat them. Which is a huge selling point.

Our next excursion found us at the St. Vincent De Paul thrift shop. Both E-Best and I brought home desireables. Hers? A stunning fuchsia blazer with gold accents and really great shoulder work. Me? A captain's hat which Jill had passed on. So on point. Also grabbed a great cropped button up in butter yellow. So thin it just might work for the Memphis heat ahead?

My afternoon was made by this tiny dispensary. Rainbows and icy refreshment in one. Yessss. Pleease. Try the pineapple. It may look like yellow snow but it tastes like summer sunshine.

The evening which followed was spectacular, sadly I have no photos to prove it but I will say this:

We started with Prickly Pear Margaritas at Coyote Cantina, discovered some mutual man-friends over dinner, fell in love with a tatoo that quoted Kurt Vonnegut, it looked a little like this:

watched bad karaoke, did a dive bar with some recent Biz School grads/fellow road trippers, admired the Virgin of Guadalupe's cape, found my new cosmic crystal dealer Chris (a rad dj by night and apparently a jewelery wiz by day,) lied about tattoos, and got stalked by a super creepy, yet insanely well-styled transient (think a river runs through it/Deadwood pioneer--he literally had a feather in his floppy felted cap--but with a "The Shining"-esque glint in his eye, a crazy-ass cast on one arm and blood on his face. Egadz.)
Scarier than our stalker is the fact that I have not a snap to show you. If we talk about it I'll cry so let's move on.

Coffee happens some mornings at Aztec and it is a delight. Try the iced hibiscus mate and a handheld breakfast burrito with avocado. It's pretty tight.

Cholula and a B-donn's T for blood is the new black. Both are hot, both make everything better.

Santa Fe coffee shop charm.

This is Keenine. He's a timberwolf, named after a river in Alaska and according to his owner's friend understands over 400 English words. Truly. I made sure to tell him how handsome and adorable he is. I think he get's it. Did I mention that he's a wolf? Welcome to the west brahs.

Next and last in Santa Fe, one last thrift. Open hands. They have the best bumper stickers and apparently a problem with floral burglary.

If you're reading this stop stealing, seriously.

When I mention Deep Purple, and I'm not talking about "Smoke on the Water", what do you think of? Is it a piece of majestic leather work that makes you envision a linebacker wearing a slipcover? How about matching beribboned faille flats? It's monochromatic mayhem. I oddly did not bring either home. Is that a regret? Too many questions. I sort of miss the jacket now that I see it here...

This book is the old "Twilight." I bought it because I adored the cover design and also so I that could say that I'm reading Twilight and sort of mean it, with out really meaning it.

What a day (and a half.) SO. ESS. EFFING. GOOD

None of it could have been possible with out the help of my amazing SF friends. I can't thank them enough.

Charley took me to see Andrew Bird at the Greek in LA. It was quite the serendipity seeing as we'd seen the band at a bar two nights before (they were watching themselves on the teevee, where they were playing on Conan, no bigs.) Here he is on Letterman too:

Also fateful? It was Mr. Bird's birthday (happy bird day?) the night that we saw him play. In between his songs, we got in the game too and sang to him a little old "happy birthday." All 6,000 of us.

what is this anyway? I love it so...

Also of note, we quite enjoyed The Redwood (aka the hospitality lounge) which I would like to describe as a having bit of an ewok village vibe except they were offering us cheese plates and free beer instead of fuzzy paw shakes. Truly a series of wonders and delights.

I think it will go without saying but Char's hat was a hit:

New name plate steeze?

Oh just a California license plate, dangled from my phat gold chain...

How did this genius ensue you ask?
Well E-best, B-donns, Aviva and I were all strolling liesurely-like into the Farmers Market at the Grove (I think? I'm not from here! Sorry brahs) and we saw them. Perfect in gold/blue, a host of names begging to be bought, given to a loved one and then shoved in the back of a drawer.

OR!! Dangled like a J-J-J-Jangle somewhere close to my heart. In this case "heart" means the heartshaped picture locket/Coney Island Keychain of me and my "boyfriend plus" (the new word I've conjured to replace "fiancé." Soooo much better! No?)

Underneath it all you'll notice a little turquoise mesh number from the Meshiest Man I Know. Have been trying to work it into everything.

Aside from loving the vintage style of the plate I am also jiving on the vintage-style of my name, it's been bringing me back in the best of ways.

Bought magenta cashmere leggings and an adorbz little dress from TSE.

A Month of Fundays

It's been a month since I last posted a peep, and I am rueful it's been so LONG. But things have been busy you know!

Seeing off bestEs, styling webby award winners, and attending weddings in the wilds of italy for weeks at a time.
It truly adds up.

But now that I am officially Betrothed, (Oh, that's another thing that happened while I was away the fine and divine Andrew De Francesco asked me to be his. In a field. In tuscany. With a ring which he hid in a gorgeous vintage film canister. SLAM DUNKKK.) I have to start taking everything so much more seriously, or so I am told. And hopefully this blog will go back to being one of those things.

Keep checking to get rewound rundowns of the magical June jaunts and the roadtrip/Cali cavorting that is yet to come.

Though I am loath to admit it (for selfish reasons alone) there actually are a few good things that have come out of my dear darling girl leaving for the open road.

Top on my list? It's was a capital excuse to get the Babez of Blogtown together and celebrate IRL. At BG, The UC, and The RVR, no less.

Bestness? Yesssssnessss.

Nothing says success like starting your afternoon with tiers of tea sandwiches, park views and veuve and wrapping up your AM with haute dogs, jerzy interludes, and a "sweet caroline" sing along.

Spending a day like that with two of my all-time favourites was just icing on the petit four.

Little Minks

Rebecca Minkoff makes amazing bags, but you knew that already, what you might not be up to date on are her terrific ready-to-wear pieces, one of which I picked up yesterday at her very serious sample sale.

The Morning After Dress, as this little number is known, is fitted, flattering and perfect for flirting. It also feels like something you could sleep in, made with super soft cotton and a leeettle bit of stretch.
Also of note: pockets.

I snapped up mine in her perfect persimmon color and I expect to get a lot of wear out of it this season. In particular, I see it paired with the dope yellow bag that ADF picked out after he won the RM lottery. The ladies in the house were not happy with this interloping lad winning their rightful raffle, and who can blame them.

It does seem a bit unfair that he won a purse when he so rarely uses one... might the real winner be me?

I do still long for the Stud Devote in Black (my homeslice Jen has one and it always looks so fly) but I'm currently devoted to the bright beauties that I've got.

My original was lost long ago during some prep school jaunt and since then I've tried to fill the void with vintage slickers and tailored trenches. What's ruffled and sparkly and hot pink all over?

This little lady named Candace Ang fashioned it out of chunked-out crystals and ruched chiffon and a bad-ass chain.

You may have heard of her, she made these hysteria-inducing boot baubles a while back, plus just did a wee co-lab with a cute little start up named Urban Outfitters.

I got stopped not once, or twice but 5... count 'em FIVE times the night I wore this to the New Museum's opening of Younger than Jesus. Even the sleeping chick wanted to get out of bed and steal it from me (the last part is an exaggeration but people truly were fareeeking.) A similar occurence went down at the Dossier fete and then again at a family function this weekend. It's been weird.

And yet delightful. Which is why I'm wearing it everywhere these days.
